Does anyone make a electronic speedo sensor that can be used on a buggy?  If yes....would it be generec to fit any electronic speedo or would it have to be the same brand of the speedometer? I have a really cool and really expensive electronic speedo from Dakota Digitals but I don't know if it will work.

Dakota has two different senders that are options.  One is a universal one that is complicated, using tach signal and shifter switches, and the other is one that is made for driveshaft installation, and it may work, depending on whether the thing can be calibrated to work with the considerably slower shaft rotation speed.  If you have a swing, it won't be an option unless you can figure out a way to attach the magnets to the brake drum or something like that.  Might call DD and see what they can do.

That's odd because Dakota sent me to a place called Jagsthatrun. He makes converters for all kinds of speedos. Let's just say that he didn't appreciate the situation. I don't think that I will be calling him again.......and he will be happy that I don't. I will double check with Dakota and let you know. It would be helpful if I knew a little about the ones you have installed. Thanks for the reply.

I don't think it would serve any purpose to talk about some West Coast fairy when they aren't here. I have found out by going on Dakota Digital's web sight that they have a very simple inductive speed sensor made for motorcycles that I flange I can get to read the bolt heads on the flange of the drive axle. I will just have to make a bracket and bolt it to the trannie. I then should be able to calibrate the speedo the old fashion way without a lot of trouble. Just a theory. I am going to order the sensor and see if it will work.
